Hi,

First of all I believe in Har-Bal (Version 1.5).

I'm not dumb (Well not today) but most a newcomer in the mixing and mastering art. Your tutorial could be improved if images would be kept at all (the bottom Frequency line and top source filter line cut) in the manual.

The following is a bad habit of an analyst-programmer and Beta tester:

------

When you open a source file an analyse file is created giving the 3 power plots. If you switch the 3 plots to off and

drag the parametric cursor in the frame a spectrum appears, which one it is ?

------

Ctrl-A doesn't work if plots are set to off after zooming.

------

When a filter file is opened no plots appears. Confusing.
If we want to modify a filter file we must open the source file and modify the shape without ability to compare with the

filter file shape. Also confusing.

------

how can we change a filter file shape if the source file is lost ?

------

We can save a filter as a .Anl file instead of .mlf and load the .Anl as a filter. All the plots desappears.
Why giving "All files" option when saving ?

------

How do we close a filter file, with the "Create a new Eq filter" button ?

------

While a filter file is opened we can load another filter file via the "Open the reference button".
Is that not confusing to work with 2 filter files opened ?

------

When we load a .Wav as a source file with the "Open a reference file" button, a plot appears and it's ok.
We can also load a .Anl as a source file and also a plot appears.
But if we load a .Txt file the "Uses an unsupported file format" message appears. Why giving "All files" option ?
Also having an .Anl file + a filter file both opened is very confusing. Which one is the reference ?

------

The File | Recent Filters command lists desappears if you load successively recent files from it.

------

I think that .mlf files lead to confusion. The .Anl files should be the backbone of all operations.

------

I believe that some improvment will lead to a very nice tool.

Thanks for believing in the product. It works quite well.

95% of the items you point out are in the manual and are not issues at all.

We agree there is a learning curve, but this is an engineering tool and we always insist that you first read the manual.

The .mfl and .anl files have two entirely separate functions.

Go here and read about reference files and filter files as well as other uses.

http://har-bal.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/ ... m.php?f=12

You cannot create a filter (.mfl) unless you actually make a change to the spectral content.
It is a file you create that actually changes the spectral content of your file. You stated that you can't tell the difference. A reference file is always in the background.
Get rid of the RED trace by toggling the button on the bottom right. To move between the traces just hold down the left mouse button and press your tab key.

If you want to get rid of the tips screen click on Options/and remove the checkmark from the "Show Tips" menu.

The .anl files are created after loading any file into Har-Bal.

You are adding a layer of complexity to the application that really doesn't exist.

Please take the time and read the manual and become familiar with the tips in the forum.

The zoom function works this way.

Click on the "zoom in" button and then highlight an area you want to work in. Do you see what is happening.....Now to get back to the default state just right click on the grapg and choose "zoom all" and everything is back to normal.

Thanks dbmasters,

with the multimedia presentation no need to read the manual.

Mister Har-Bal,

Typical response from engineering staff. Anyway I like Har-Bal and wish you many success !
