.anl files
Hello Paavo and Earle, It has been a very long time since I have posted on here BUT I have continued to use Har-Bal almost every day. Congrats on version 3, it is great. You used to allow users to upload files and you would supply a reference file or .anl on what you thought was appropriate. Do you ...

Re: mastering a non-stop album?
Paavo, I will indeed let you know what I think once I have a chance to really get used to the sound of them. On first listen I did notice an unbeliveably clear stereo image and I finally understand what depth means and hearing 'into a mix'. So far I am more than impressed with what I have heard. Sin...

Re: mastering a non-stop album?
Paavo, Sorry I didn't get back to you for a bit. Just wanted to update you since you have been such great help. Since our chat I have remixed the track and it is sounding better by a long way, I think. (earle has a copy) It will never be great due to the way it was recorded but it will serve its pur...

Re: time alignment
Paavo, I think in terms of actual time its is very small indeed, When inlarged on screen to its fullest in cubase, some hits line up at the start across multiple tracks, others about halfway into the close mic hit (say between snare and OH) others sometimes after the first impact of the stick has pa...

Re: mastering a non-stop album?
Paavo, I am in the proccess now of uploading a sample of the church recording we spoke of in this post a week or so ago to yousendit for you. I have also incuded a copy of the Filter file I created for the track to see if you are able to tell me if I am using Har-Bal the way you intended (if you don...

time alignment
Hello, As part of the search for the ultimate drum sound I am forever 'fiddling with the alignment of all of the drum tracks in any given song. I have read various methods like using the transient peak to line up etc but I find that even if I can can find a really clean hit say on the snare that was...

Re: learning to trust my ears not my eyes
Paavo, Thanks for the reply, It makes sence for sure and I think I have always known that but when you already doubt your own ability it is easy to find an excuse anywhere :) There is no doubt that using Harbal has opened my ears AND my eyes in a way I never though possible and thats a skill you can...

learning to trust my ears not my eyes
Hello Paavo and Earle, I have a question which may seem rather elementry since I have been a harbal user for so long now. While harbal is marketed (and with good reason) as a visual mastering system to aid the proccess, I find all too often I get caught up in the visual aspect of the program and oft...

Re: mastering a non-stop album?
Paavo, I have the mix as a multi track file in Cubase SX 3. I mixed the show live on a Mackie Onyx 1640 so I was limited to 16 channels for recording but I was able to link from firewire to my laptop pre insert and eq etc for dry mixdown. The venue was big enough to be able to seperate the musicians...

Re: mastering a non-stop album?
Paavo, Thanks so much for that, I thought that may be the case. I have not really done any crossfading so it wll be an interesting experiment for me. I did bring up the entire track in Har-Bal to see what my overall eq curve was like, and over all it was ok, IntuQ ( you know what I mean lol) hardly ...

mastering a non-stop album?
Hello, Firstly, sorry for the poor desciption in the subject heading lol but couldn't think of the words to descibe. I was recently hired by a small local church to mix and record a three day event which included several hours of un-interupted, often imporvised 'jamming'. One out of the 6 ses...

mixing to master?
Hello, I have a question that has bugged me for a very long time (well 2 questions really) The other day I part finished a mix I was working on for a blues/contemporary song. I wanted to check the mix on other sources so I took it round to a friends house who has a reasonable stereo to listen on. On...
