Re: New Har-Bal User: Can't Get Good RMS Levels!

You can actually have a song at -13db sound louder than a song at -10db.The more compression you apply the softer your song will sound even if you make up the gain....

Here is a link for all the best mastered CD's. These include all genres. http://johnvestman.com/commercial_cds.htm If you only have audio files on a cd and don’t have a wave file extractor I recommend CD-EX as a free fully featured CD extraction program which can extract to the WAV format you need f...

Re: PLEASE Share your workflow in HB
Here is a suggestion. The CD below is listed among the top mastered albums. Purchase the CD and study the spectrum. Especially the peak (yellow) line and you will see consistency throughout the entire project. Use is as your guide. George Duke - Duke - 5-Star Reference CD** Mastered by John Vestman,...

Re: PLEASE Share your workflow in HB
Hello My workflow is somewhat different from the tutorial because I am using Har-Bal in combination with a hardware mastering chain. I do not use computers for mastering, however I do use Har-Bal to view and correct the spectrum prior to insertion in my hardware mastering chain, because it shows me ...

Re: HAR-BAL AND THE VG-99 AND OTHER GUITARS
Hi Ive been using Har-bal to help me set up my VG-99 guitar processor. I have an American Standard Strat that I bought in 1990. I put a GK pickup on it to use when I bought a Roland VG-88. Later I bought a VG-99. After 9-11, it became more difficult ts time went on, to take the Strat and a big box ...

Re: New Har-Bal User: Can't Get Good RMS Levels!
I think I'm having the same issue. When using dynamic compression on my current song in Har-bal 3.0, if there are multiple kicks within a span of few seconds (doublets, triplets, etc.), their punch becomes squashed. I've been able to negate this by only using the Limiter, but I'd still like to use ...

Re: YouTube Videos Featuring Har-Bal 3.0
Earle , are those videos made by you ? After looking at the videos it seemed to me that the "Empathetic Equalisation" method where not used at all . There were used very low Q`s to balance the freq spectrum . But then again it took a lot less time to get it to sound better . All the best ...

Mid Side Left Right Views
The Mid is the stereo view
Whenever you apply a filter change to the mid spectrum that is always applied to the side spectrum too so that the stereo image is unaltered.
Our Mid / Side decoding is defined by the following equations:
Mid = Left + Right
Side = Left – Right
