If you use protools version 7.0 or above, digidesign has two "new" plugins that it seems quite proud of. You can download this for free: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=121&langid=100&itemid=4942 Or this for $500: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=121&langid=1...

Thanks Paavo.

Yes, flattening the curve in a loose sense.

I mostly use IntuitCurve to approach an idealized reference spectrum as described by uncajesse here (my curve is similar to his):

Harbal As A Channel Strip

Let's get some opinions on how best to eq a track with harbal. There is brief reference to it here: http://www.har-bal.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1000 http://www.har-bal.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=904 But, this sounds like a bigger topic. Here's my 2 cents: Currently the wa...

Harbal As A Channel Strip

Currently the way I mix is to analyze every track with har-bal. I don't bounce anything extra, I just direct harbal to the proper file in the audio files folder. I do not process the track with harbal, I set my track eq to simulate the harbal filter. What's the best filter for a track could be a com...

That's ok. I'm enjoying making my own curves - it's easy and a real trip. I see what you mean about elephant. I think I was using the wrong setting when it was clipping.

Thanks

Jesse

Would you be so kind as to share your ideal curce like you did before? Your approach is really saving me.

Thanks!

Is it just me, or was the May 26, 2007 entry by uncasse (Jesse) edited? Didn't it originally describe the use of the M function (curve matching) over a defined frequency range (ie 70 hz to 12k) and using an idealized curve as the match which Jesse painstakingly created then provided us a download li...

Unfortunately, the Anderton article is somewhat vague on the use of harbal. When harbalizing bass, what is the goal (taming the biggest peaks, raising the floor, empathetic eq)? What does an ideal bass spectrum look like? This is part of a bigger question. If using harbal on a single instrument, wha...

Ok. This thread addresses the first half of my post: http://duc.digidesign.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1050248&page=2&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=7&fpart=1 It says: 1. Most people are routing internally rather than externally. 2. Most people think that Record to disc (RTD) is some...

Bounce to disc vs record to track?

There is support for recording the mix to a track instead of using the DAWs bounce feature (at least for protools). This can either be routed through an internal bus, or externally using a patch from the D/A output to the A/D channel inputs. Here is a strong endorsement for internal routing - http:/...

Idealized curve matching

It is stunning just how well the idealized curve matching works IMHO. Thanks Jesse - for sharing such a great idea and your views on all those plug-ins. I did follow it with McDSP ml4000 which is a nice multiband processor.

Thanks

Elephant

Why do I always get some nasty clipping with elephant - is it just me, or is elephant not "brick-wall." Anyway, I am happy with the har-bal limiter. I recently compared it to the new McDsp ml4000 and thought when just comparing the one channel limiter to the harbal limiter without any eq o...

A late thank you to Ged Leitch, Zumbido and others for help on bass. I forgot to check the forum for a while and only recently saw your good advice. Right now I have been trying just eq (simple small cuts) & comp & it seems to be helping.

Thanks

Anderton Harbal on bass

I don't have May SOS, so would someone care to briefly state how Craig Anderton uses Harbal on bass?

Thanks
