HarBal 2.3 stopped opening

I recently upgraded my DAW computer to Windows 7 64 bit. In addition to my HarBal v. 3, I like to maintain a v. 2.3 copy for a quick spectral analysis, since it opens quicker, analyzes quicker and spins off less analysis files. At first, it worked fine, but a few days later, after a Windows update, ...

Paavo,
I took your advice and ordered the book. It's a little pricey but the material looks interesting. I'm looking forward to reading what it has to say.
Thanks,
Mark

Paavo, I think you may have defined the real problem in my mixes, that being poor room acoustics and bad mic placement. Well, not so much bad mic placement as bad (or improper) mics. Those things are true. It makes sense that this would have resulted in dull sounding tracks that, as you say, are not...

Paavo, If I understand the information on these posts correctly, multi-band compression is a kind of repair tool for imperfect mixes that can't be re-mixed, and the cutoff point selection is based on what you are attempting to repair. Otherwise, wide-band compression would likely be used. Although I...

Har-Bal spectrum as a frequncy selector

Hi folks, I have been using the mastering process outlined in the tutorial and the results have been very good, but I'm trying to get beyond simply following a procedure and understand the reasoning behind it. I do, of course, listen to the effect that changing the attack and release times (usually ...

Best place for dither

Okay, so the final step is all that's necessary. Wavelab does allow you turn the dither on or off, so there is no chance of a hidden dither step, but I think I'm going to start storing the finished files as 16 bit, so that I can listen to the result without having to burn a CD. Thanks

Best place for dither

After mixing in Pro Tools, I create a 24 bit stereo file that I export to HarBal. After making adjustments, I use Wavelab for final processing. My question is: Where should I add dither? On the final stage, obviously, but what about on the bounce from Pro Tools? I also have been saving the finalized...

Opening two files (L mono & R mono) simultaneously

Is there a way to open a pair of mono files representing the left and right channels of a stereo track ,as ProTools LE works only with mono sound files, even if the mix user interface shows them as a stereo file. When using Har-Bal to equalize an individual stereo track, I am forced to bounce the tr...
