Re: Upsampling for Mastering
Hey Paavo. Actually, my reasons for upsampling don't really have anything to do with inter-sample clips/digital overs, which I've found can be present regardless of sampling rate and especially when trying to push something loud. I use the free SSL meter (x-ism I think it's called) to keep tabs on t...

Upsampling for Mastering
Hey Guys, been a while, I have a quick question. These days I find myself upsampling to 96k for mastering, for various reasons. Is there any reason why Har-Bal should be used before upsampling, and not after? I thought I read something about this on the forum a long, long time ago but can't find it ...

Earle and Paavo, Thanks for listening to the track, that is a huge compliment coming from you two!!! Seriously though, I couldn't have done it about Har-Bal, not just because of its EQ power, but also its ability to show me visually what was happening in my mixes so I could learn and work more effec...

Kudos 2 Har-Bal
First, I want to thank Earle and Paavo for being so attentive to this forum and answering everyone's questions so quickly...I'd have to say that a good part of what I know about mixing and mastering I learned right here And as for the Har-Bal program itself, I'd have to say that after learning how t...

track info, ISRC codes, etc
Hey Can anyone tell me... I recently had a project mastered, and they did a great job with doing the stuff i can't do at home, like raising the levels to commercial competetiveness without making it sound like crap, etc... Being familiar with what Har-Bal can do, however, I'm currently going back an...

early reflections
Hey While this probably doesn't sound the most "natural," can anyone tell me of certain applications when using digital reverbs that you would want very little (if any at all) early reflections going on (i.e. turning them off on the RVerb unit, like Earle had me do with the verb settings f...

need all y'alls opinion
hey guys http://www.adamcarmony.com/twpiece.com This is a piece of a song I'm going to be having mastered in about a week, I was wondering if you guys could give me your opinion on the mix, especially if you're familiar with the pop/rnb genre. I was trying to emulate the warm sound of studio compres...

Couple more reverb questions..
Quick couple of questions... If you're going for a tight/clean reverb sound, like for dance music, I usually do 60 seconds divided by the tempo, then multiply by two if a longer time is desired... My question is, when dealing with pre-delay, even small amounts like 20 ms, in order to maintain the ri...

PS
P.S. Also, if anyone is familiar with the Waves eq plugins, I was wondering if y'all think the RenEQ plugin is superior in mixdown across the board (compared to say, the Q1 series), or does it really matter on the application? Just curious.

Mixing Vocals n Using Reverbs
Hello, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me their opinion on using the LinMB compressor for pop vocals in mixdown. It seems this is the only tool that gets me close to the vocal sound im going for, but my ears play tricks on me and I'm having trouble finding the best settings. I use a couple...
