Thanks Earle. My problem is that T-Racks is set up like a traditional analog processor, so it doesn't have the same parameters set up like the digital limiters I've used does- I can't simply go in and set the threshold and outceiling in it the way you describe. I do have access to some other softwar...

matching loudness with harbal and t-racks
Okay, I've Harbal-ized two songs and used the Opto+1/2inch setting in T-Racks to master them, and one of the two songs is about a decibal louder than the other. The difference is noticable, but I like the sound of both files individually. How do I get the softer file to match the louder one? I am re...

Earle- When I follow the process you've discussed here, I'm consistently ending up with files at between -12RMS and -14 RMS. What parameters in T-Racks should I mess with to increase this to about -11 RMS so that my songs are at least closer in loudness to other professionally mastered hard rock son...

Earle- Thanks for your help! I've got one more question though- when I want to compare my eq to a reference, and I have to move the green line up as a whole to lay it on top of the reference eq, how do I juxtapose the two? If the reference has a pronounced bass region, should I lay my bass region on...

bass region help
My mixes almost all tend to start sloping pretty drastically downward at about 85Hz, but I notice that my rock reference files curve back up at around 65Hz and then slope back down at around 42.5 Hz. My question is, should I consider the fact that my own mixes don't slope back up a "hole" ...

-3 dbs
Earle-
I am currently working with a 16 bit project in Sonar- should I still mix to -3 dbs before running the file through Har-bal?

What I'm wondering here is why my mix sounds so much better without the compression on, and whether or not those of you mixing down using the opto+1/2 inch setting are leaving the compression on or not. Right now, if I mix down in T-Racks after Harbalizing with the aformentioned setting minus the co...

using T-RackS with Harbal
Earle- Just got T-RackS as per your recommendation and am very impressed, but I'm wondering if I should turn off the compressor when I use the opto+half inch setting with my Harbalized track- it sounds much louder and "fuller" this way, but I don't know if I'm doing something wrong here. P...

Sorry guys, I meant in my last post to ask if mixing down to -6dbs (peak levels) was what I should do, regardless of my initial RMS, not -3dbs. I get confused by average loudness and peak levels, as sometimes posters in forums will be referring to the former but seem to be discussing the latter. Sor...

Hey, first of all thanks so much for the quick and thorough replies. Your product and your service are both outstanding-- you can be sure I'll be recommending Harbal to others! Paavo, I've been mixing my music's peak levels to -.2 dbs, have brought it into Harbal, and have turned the gain up to as m...

gain and how to use it
Hey guys, I'm a new user and I am a little confused about the "gain lever" and mastering. In the forums, I've read that the best way to match average volume levels w/ a reference is to click on the "match loudness" option, see what Harbal recommends, set the gain back to zero, sa...
