Re: Synching Har-Bal

I think it could be VERY useful.

I'd probably mostly use it with multitracked drums where I can submix the many tracks to a stereo mix then apply HB (synched) in realtime along with the rest of the music playing.

Keep in mind... If you do it the 'old-fashioned' way (i.e., pitch bend up via a sampler), obviously the pitch goes up. The thing Melodyne can do BETTER than Pro Tools is to keep the pitch the same. You can download a demo version from the Celemony site to see if it'll work for you. I'd strongly sugg...

I agree with Paavo, wrong time to make that decision. However... Melodyne is probably the best software for this kind of application. While I use the 'Studio' version, you may be able to use the least expensive version called 'Essential' for this time compressing job. You could also try loading the ...

Thanks for the review link.

Everything I've read speaks highly of these monitors.

If I get them I'll post a short review.

Dynaudio BM6A MkII Monitors

Anyone have any experience with these:

Dynaudio BM6A MkII

I think that they are relatively new - as there was a previous model.

I'm looking for moderately priced near-field monitors.

I already have a sub that I occasionally use.

One can just download it. Pay the $100 (or whatever it is).

If it doesn't work out after a 30 day use period, one can get ther money back.

That sounds like a 'demo' period to me.

I'd be curious as to how many have asked for their money back. Probably zero.

Steve, Contact Paavo or Earle by e-mail. Earle is here in the U.S. and may give you phone consultation. They are both great guys and will answer anything to get you going. Once you get Har-Bal, it is a breeze to use. I use it constantly from tweaking a bass track to a full mix and everything in betw...

Steve, Good to see you over here - finally!!! I think what I may have said, to you about Har-Bal, is a bit of an over-generalization. Paavo, is right (of course), it is a hit and miss process. But, when it works it is GREAT. Recently, I used Har-Bal to match the EQ of a lead vocal recorded at my stu...

Yes indeed! I've been working on a project whereas the vocals were recorded at another studio. The artist is making a few 'changes' to these previously recorded vocals by recording the changes at my studio. Of course, with the different room, mic and other variables, these 'new' vocals sound differe...

Craig, If you want to send me a sample of your track and a sample of the CD track you are trying match I can give it a try. I've been able to get pretty 'loud' sounding masters. Paavo is absolutely correct in everything he is saying. But I do understand the volume wars game that you are up against. ...

Aren't Har-Bal and Ozone different products? I do not use Ozone but I do use T-RackS, which probably is a product more similar to Ozone. I utilize Har-Bal before T-RackS. Har-Bal has a far superior EQ'ing ability than T-RackS and I would assume better than Ozone, as well. I do NO EQ'ing with T-RackS...

I've heard this debate about BTD v. RTD for years. I for one do NOT hear a difference. I've tried the 'phase cancellation' test countless times and ALWAYS get dead silence as the result. Having said that... I use BOTH methods depending on the mix. If I am satisfied that a one-time-through with no fu...

I believe the method would require you to set a monitor out in your hall, generate some pink noise and record that with your mic of choice. Then by analyzing this recording with Har-Bal, you'd see the overall result. Ideally you are wanting to see a 'flat' line. So, by observing the peaks and dips y...

"You should be wary of sample rate conversion between 48,96, or 192kHz to 44.1kHz... "

Good advice!

If you look at my initial response post date (Apr 07, 2006), I have long ago changed my method and done all my tracking at 24-bit/44.1 kHz.

Nothing should change. Are you playing the '_eq' file back in Har-Bal or some other player? What you can try AFTER you make the '_eq' is to open it in the original HB window as a 'template' and compare the original with EQ and the new '_eq" file. These should not only look the same, they should...
