Why don't you render or bounce the track with the plug-ins? Seems like that would be a more efficient method. Of course you're right; it often is. I kinda had a mental slip when I typed this post -- got distracted. I meant to mention that, in some instances, the quality of the plug doesn't sound gr...

Auto Spectrum Matching... again

Hi Paavo and Earle, I know this topic has come up several times, and I realize you fear "misuse" of the product. However, I'd like to address a different scenario in which spectrum matching would be extremely helpful. Lately I've been using HB to match the spectrum of tracks which have had...

Ya know, just thinking about this, would it be possible to show a small version of the actual wave below the timeline, so we would know visually where we are dragging to...maybe be able to highlight a section of the have for quick and easy looping and such things...sometimes I want to find a spot o...

On a related note, it'd be great to have the slider be a bit wider, too. It's rather thin and requires a bit too much fine motor skill (for those of us whose cursor speed is fast) to click right on it. About double the width would be nice.

Hi Tom, I know what you mean. I've had the problem myself. After the port to wxWidgets it may no longer be an issue so I may not actually do any thing about it since the porting process is likely to fix it. If it is really bothering you though, I'd consider doing a special build just for you as a o...

Got it. Thanks, Paavo.

You are probably correct. Perhaps there any mixing engineers out there that may be able to explain this better. I just don't see this issue as being complex. All instruments have their own space. This issue really needs to be addressed in the mixdown stage. Earle Yes, Earle, Paavo is correct. I und...

Forgive me, Earle, I guess I'm not being clear. I understand fundamental frequencies with regard to *single* notes. You had said to "look at the fundamental frequency of each of those in the bass region and slightly boost possibly the second and third harmonic". What I'm asking about is ho...

Jay, I'm sure Earle will answer you but I'm wondering why exactly, it is important for you to know the fundamental frequencies of a particular part played by a particular instrument. In a sense, I wondering if your mind set is leaning too much toward "control". Hi Paavo, I asked specifica...

You look at the fundamental frequency of each of those in the bass region and slightly boost possibly the second and third harmonic. Earl, how do you find the fundamental on a complex sound (e.g., kick) or on a continuous part (e.g. a bass line). Of course, the fundamental is obvious on, say, a sin...

Re: Track Position Slider

It might be helpful to be able to click your mouse anywhere on the" horizontal track" of the "track position slider" and have the pointer end up at that position rather than having to "drag" the pointer or continously click on the "track" to move to a new loc...

Very short sound files

Hi Paavo, I'm sure you're already aware that Har-bal won't play files that are very short in duration, e.g., a single bass drum. I'm wondering if you have plans to address this. I'm trying to analyze a bunch of different kicks, and it's frustrating because I can't actually hear them in Har-Bal. On a...

Paavo, I think what electro is concerned about is that some plugins alter the signal even when they're at a "neutral" setting (although I wouldn't consider his reference to "opposite curves" to come under this category). I'm not as concerned as electro is about this cuz I just by...

Is Har-Bal bit transparent You can find out on your own by trying the following. Place some wav file in your audio app. Perform the Har-bal functions you mentioned on a duplicate of the file. Then place the Har-balized file on another track at the exact same point in the timeline in your audio app ...

Problem with Bass Drum

...so I boosted 50-60Hz a bit, and pulled down around 125Hz, which seemed to take away the boom and make it a bit drier. What do you suggest if you consistently want to have a nice relaxed round bass that you can "feel" and "hear" on good speakers, yet doesn't affect headroom, e...
