Wow wow wow wow man I love this new method! Gosh, I swear this project I'm working sounds so much more pro now! Ahh Craig It's a labour of love. When we gain an understanding of our tools, we can always pick the right tool for the project. There is nothing wrong with having a number of different co...

Re: Aphex 204

I really do like the Aphex 204. Cheers Earle Is the 204 available as a plug-in? Tom I do not believe there is a plugin version of the Aphex 204. The closest tool to it is the Waves Renaissance Bass because of its ability to actualy generate harmonics which is what the 204 does very well. Cheers Earle

Yeah I set it to 2 because when I set it higher it was sounding weird but 2 did the trick a whole lot better. What's the best way you recommend setting the Attack and Release settings? Or do you just kind mess around with them until you get the sound you're looking for? There seems to be an Auto-Re...

Re: About RMS...

I don't have the particular plugins mentioned in the mastering tutorial. And I don't seem to have a plugin that tells me RMS level of a track. I'm wondering if the Average values displayed in Har-Bal (top right corner of the display) will suffice for determining what value to put into the limiter. ...

Thanks so much, Earle! You know, I've found that using a compressor right before limiting makes my tracks sound better for some reason. I'm using this Waves SSL Compressor that I've had for awhile and it's really helping one of my tracks to have more punch. Nice! Perfect, make sure you set the rati...

Re: Aphex 204

Hi Earle, In many reviews I have read good impressions about the legendary Aphex 204, and from your message I noticed that it’s also among the hardware you use.. 8) I am writing and producing electronic music, and for sure using Har-Bal during mastering. I am planning to get an Aphex 204 as well bu...

Ah cool! Just 2 more questions and I promise I'll leave ya alone, lol. So what's the difference between a multiband compresser and a wide band compresser? I've never heard of a wideband compressor before and what benefits does one get from using it when mastering? Also, are there are good software ...

Sure did. It really does sound great. So I have a question...when's the best time to use multiband compression (like LinMB or such)? Because that's what I've been using and I think that was my problem as to why I couldn't get any prescence. Craig I only use a Multiband compressor when the track sou...

Re: Lol! Gosh Earle what did you do?

I sent you a track a little while back (Leave Me Alone) and you mastered a 45 second clip. I listened to it and was like, WOW, what did he do? I can't make that track sound that good for the life of me, lol. How did you do that? I wonder if you ever used har-bal. lol. Craig First of all let me say ...

Well, I'm guessing that if I test my material out with IPod headphones (sense they tend to be really sensitive to distortion and all) I might be better off. By the way.....does Earle himself use Har-bal himself? I'm sure he does, but I was just wondering... Hello Craig Most of my mastering is done ...

Hi Andrew I just had the opportunity to listen to some of your XR re-masterings. You have accomplished two things: You have captured both the true essence of the music without compromising a bit of dynamics and the era of that time period. What an amazing listening experience. Thanks you so much for...

Re: Version 2 No Longer Working

Hello... When I attempt to open Har-Bal (v2)...I get a message that reads: "Your temporary registration key has expired". So I checked my software shelf; & I actually purchased & have Har-Bal 1, on CD-ROM. What's going on w/ this...I though I had upgraded from v1 to v2...now I can...

Re: Kudos 2 Har-Bal

First, I want to thank Earle and Paavo for being so attentive to this forum and answering everyone's questions so quickly...I'd have to say that a good part of what I know about mixing and mastering I learned right here And as for the Har-Bal program itself, I'd have to say that after learning how ...

Adam

The coding, ISRC codes, track names etc you are referring to is done in just about any cd burning program.

Most CD burning programs today such as Nero, Toast contain this feature.
