Paavo.
I don't know if you're planning on making the beta release available to all registered users -- or just a few selected ones. But either way, I'd like to be included. Thanks.

This will raise the noise floor by about 3dB for the first step but less so if you happen to run it through again and again. Paavo, If using multiple passes of Har-Bal on the same project, because of the built-in dithering feature, is there a point at which some sort or subtle noise reduction shoul...

Vertical Scale

Paavo,

How do you interpret the left vertical dB scale? I'm particularly interested in the "x +10dB . . ." Just what does that mean and how do you convert it into "raw" dB?

Earle,

In order to get the male vocal where I thought it should be, I had to make about a 5dB increase at 4500Hz. Does this sound excessive to you?

Lifting vocals out of a track??

A question for Earle . . . If vocals are somewhat buried in a track and the band does not want to re-mix, I assume that using Multi-Band is about the only option available to help lift those vocals out a little. In this situation, what is the best frequency range to use? And, should I be focusing on...

Does this mean all of the content below the knee, or just some of it -- just certain frequencies?

Mudiness is caused by low frequencies masking mid's and hi's. It may be confined to a small region of the spectrum or it may be a broad scale thing. It all depends on the context and what the spectrum is telling you. If everything basically looks ok in the Har-Bal spectrum but the track sounds mudd...

Paavo, Great advice -- it really seems to work! By the way, on a slightly different subject, how exactly do you read the left hand vertical scale (i.e. , "x +10dB"). I guess what I'd really like to know is if hypothetically I wanted to pull some frequencies down by 2dB, how would I determi...

Paavo, So, if the track looks pretty well balanced in HB and I do as you say -- use the low shelving tool -- will this not take the "guts" out of my track? It seems like if you start attenuating the mids and lows, you begin removing the fullness and everything starts sounding pretty thin. ...

Track Muddiness

What's the best way to clean up "muddiness" in a track? Are there some key frequencies that should be attenuated -- or boosted?

Need some compression clarification

Earle,

I believe you've generally said the EQ should come before compression. Does that rule of thumb hold true for both single-band and multi-band -- or is it preferential to use Mulit-Band before EQ?

ANL Reference Question

Earle, What is the best audio source to use for creating the most accurate anl reference files (for level only)? I'd like to create a series of them (-8db to -16db) to be used for matching loudness (average RMS). I have experimented with several different audio sources (i.e., music file, pink noise,...
