I'm assuming that if you leave the limiter slider untouched it's not working. Is this correct? I hope so. If not a bypass would be essential. I'm still using T-RackS. I can't seem to get the levels from HB2 that I can from T-RackS. Maybe I am 'too' used to the T-RackS sound. I'm still doing the EQin...

"I don't understand about why so many folk (pro Mastering engineers included) diss Harbal..." Same reasons drummers hate BFD... Same reasons session singers hate Celemony... Same reasons guitarists hate Real Guitar... They (mastering dudes) fear being replaced. It's only natural, I guess....

Are you sending any MIDI (i.e., HUI, KB controller) to Pro Tools? Check the 'MIDI Devices' in PT. Maybe something got selected and is being received by PT. Are there any 'colored' boxes/outlines within any of the channels that are having this problem? Check the 'Peripherals' section. Other than that...

I 'had' the same problem you have. I do my mixing on a MAC and mastering on a PC. I got this: PCMacLan and download 'PC MACLAN for Windows NT/2K/XP''. Download the 'trial' software. You can use it indefinitely without purchasing if you don't mind that you can only use it for three hours before you n...

Ha! Thanks Earle! I do know what the frequencies are. I was being a 'bad' boy towards spunkymunkey. My main instrument is bass (electric, acoustic, stick). Cut at 60Hz (near a 'Bb', first fret on the A-string)? Boost at 80Hz (near the 'E', second fret on the D-string)? Sounds to me like 'room'...

Do you know what the frequency is, in Hertz, of the low open 'E' string?

Or, if the bass is a 5-string with a low 'B', what is the frequency of that 'B'?

"I record in 44/24 and master at 96/32" Why do you do that? I assume that when you make your mix file (before mastering) you end up with a 44.1kHz / 24-bit stereo file. But why do you master at 96/32 knowing that you final product needs to be 44.1/16? You do utilize dithering to make that...

Shelving is good. But if you are working with, say guitar power chords power chords, you may NOT want to 'shelve' at 82.5 Hz (the fundamental of the low 'E'). If you do, you lose the 'difference' frequencies. You need to use your ears before you start carving away. But, it is very effective when don...

A whole year?

Man, has it been a whole year? I've had similar 'discussions' on other forums. Being an extremely impressed and happy user of Har-bal, it has amazed me, over-and-over again, how the 'dyed-in-the-wool' naysayers can blather endlessly without ever having even tried Har-Bal. Here's to a fabulously succ...

Here's a screen capture of a 'Before & After": http://home.pacbell.net/lmoffitt/images/hb.jpg The 'blue' is what was given to me. This indicates problems in the mixing environment. The 'green' is the adjustment with Har-bal. Something like this, to me, would suggest that a control room rede...

Interesting comment about the ceiling-to-floor mode. What I've noticed when 'Har-Bal'-izing some mixes brought to me is the opposite. There are bumps at approximately 70, 140, 210 and 280 Hz. The one at 140 Hz. being the loudest. I attribute this to the clients ears and monitors being in the middle ...

"so whats next after all of this to complite the mastering..." I'd say that you are nearly finished, assuming that you've done everything correctly - and that is purely subjective. The only other step I do after what you've done is to bring the Har-Balized file into an 'editor' (i.e., Pro...

For what it's worth... I have 'discovered' that if I open up, in Har-Bal, an audio file at 48 kHz. and my word clock is set at 44.1 kHz., I get a sound card error and the file won't play. The clock has to match the sound file's sample rate to get it to play in Har-Bal.
