Re: RMS Levels

Tom
RMS is by definition an average. There is no such thing as max or min RMS. See the pdf in my previous post.

I've always used SoundForge to check RMS levels. A few months ago I upgraded from ver 5.0 to ver 8.0, and noticed that the RMS readings are sometimes 2-3 db closer to zero on v8 compared to what v5 would report on the same source material ? Has anybody noticed this ? Anyway, what app are you guys us...

One of my favorite sounding rock cd's has always been that Toy Matinee album (early 90's - haven't heard the recent remaster and can't imagine how it could have been improved). There is no mastering credit on the album either ! In my opinion, the early 90's are when the best sounding cd's (sonically...

Re: Whole spectrum and nothing but the whole spectrum?

I was thinking of finetuning the 'tune-your-room' method to get even better results. Namely first a pink-noise in the bass area 20-500, then midrange and then highs... You would get 3 different filters which I think is more accurate then one band, at least that is what i think..anyone has thoughts ...

Ya know, just thinking about this, would it be possible to show a small version of the actual wave below the timeline, so we would know visually where we are dragging to...maybe be able to highlight a section of the have for quick and easy looping and such things...sometimes I want to find a spot o...

>> The stereo panning is not affected while sculpting the spectrum in Har-Bal. Actually, a properly-balanced spectrum will "sound" like the stereo field is more well-defined, and wider - at least that has been my experience with HB. This is purely a psycho-acoustic result, because as Earle...

Of course in 10-15 years from now, when a reversal of this louder-is-better philosophy gains mass appeal, labels will be able to release remastered versions of today's music with RESTORED dynamic range (which is what digital was supposed to do in the first place). So maybe the labels do know what th...

Paavo, I'll try to find out what Sonar does. You're probably right about the number of parameters. However, I've found a good alternative : I can highlight a clip in Sonar and drag it directly into HB and it works great that way. Thanks for supporting drag & drop, as it has really helped my work...

Paavo & Earle,

I've reinstalled and updated the dll. I did have the old one originally. So far so good, will let you know if I see the problem again.
