Re: Menus vs. Buttons to See Changes

EugeneB, All you have done in the steps outlined is open your track and a reference. You have made no filter changes so your track filter will have a flat frequency response with no EQ, air, dynamics or limiting applied. Hence when you toggle the Air, EQ and Dynamics buttons you won't here a change....

Re: Menus vs. Buttons to See Changes

Source and reference spectrums are displayed in different shades of colour. The reference is dark green, dark yellow and dark purple for average, peak and real time traces. Furthermore, the toggle reference button shows the checked state of reference session playback and the circles on the plots ind...

Re: Deep Valleys Question

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is a vocal reflexion filter? Is that like a vocal booth or something. From what I see in your spectrum there are large peaks at around 400 and 600Hz which more than likely would sound distressing, the 600Hz one in particular. You need to bring that region down wi...

Re: My machine is not connected to the Internet

Any particular reason you are running it under a virtual box? Did you click on and read the "How to Install" link on the page where you downloaded the software? If not then please do so as It explains in great detail how you should create a license for a machine not connected to the intern...

Re: Har-Bal Dynamics Processing Explained

Where did you take that quote from? I don't recall writing anything like that and I can't find it in the article. Because of lack of context I don't understand your question.

cheers,

Paavo.

Re: New version

Hi Jyri, I haven't formerly announced it yet as I was waiting to see if any problems show with the build. revision 4 is there as a fallback but so far so good. It's basically a bug fix version with one feature addition. The list of changes include: 1) Fixed problems with dynamic node editing that al...

Re: Har-Bal 64-bit Version?

Yes, there are 32 and 64 bit builds for Windows and OS X. To get the one you are after, go to the link given in your original order, log in and download. The link remains active for as long as you have a license, which is normally indefinite, unless you request a refund. cheers, Paavo. PS - if you n...

Re: 16-bit Question

Har-Bal 3 does all DSP using 64 bit floating point internally. For real data streams there is essentially no material difference in performance between storing in 32 bit floating point or 32 bit fixed point. On the issue of being able to disable the dither on 16 bit files, I don't see it as a good i...

Re: USING HARBALL AS AN OFFLINE EQ

Which bit are you referring to? The initial parts of this thread a very old and aren't areas that we are actively pursuing (VST and hardware solution). Incorporation of room compensation EQ is being planned for though. Using Har-Bal to aid in room tuning is simple enough. Get a pink noise source pla...

Re: Can I use Har-Bal offline ?

It does NOT need to be connected to the internet but it DOES need to have an ACTIVE network device because it uses the device physical address as a means of authentication. You must have turned off your network device after installing the key. The typical approach to running Har-Bal is to have the i...

Re: New Har-Bal User: Can't Get Good RMS Levels!

The limiter in HB2.3 introduces distortions not present in HB3 limiter. The HB3 limiter has an extra stage to avoid clipping and to smoothly bring down transient material. HB2.3 limiter would just clip it which gives it a harder sound. On certain material HB2.3 would introduce clicking sounds becaus...

Re: New Har-Bal User: Can't Get Good RMS Levels!

I concur with Earle. Over maximisation of loudness figures might make for "loud figures" but the track usually doesn't sound as loud as one mastered to a more conservative level because it loses too much dynamic range. Har-Bal was never designed with loudness maximisation in mind. It was d...

Re: Dynamics Processing

The gain slider does not change the dynamic range except as a side effectof the limiter cutting it. That is why moving the gain slider only moves the histogram but does not change it's shape (limiting excepted). The node tools allow you to change the dynamic range. It is all explained in great detai...

Re: EQ/DYN/AIR TOGGLE BUTTONS: WHY TWO SETS? WHY NOT IN SYN

The duplicate set of buttons to the side of the time line correspond to the selected segment. That is, what you see in the state of those buttons tells you whether or not those features are active for the selected segment. It allows you, for example, to take out the effect of EQ on a given segment w...

Re: A question about Har-Bal 3 Air

As far as I'm aware, K stereo does not use an approach anything like Har-Bal though I haven't researched it and I'm not particularly interested in doing so either. From what a friend told me about it, K stereo is realised in the time domain with a series of delayed and amplitude reduced versions of ...
