Re: Use Har-Bal to tune your playback equalization
I like the idea of the plugin. However, I have to convince myself that this is better than trying to eq the room using what tools that I have already. I have access to a pink noise generator. I have an omnidirectional mic. I could record the audio and analyze it with Harbal for longer period measure...

Re: Use Har-Bal to tune your playback equalization
Evan, Thanks for the advice. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. I was quite unaware of the equalization plugin option. I would like the consistency that a system like that has to offer. After researching this a bit it seems that you have to use the VST plugin for the playback. Not all o...

Re: Use Har-Bal to tune your playback equalization
Hello Paavo,
Thank you for your insights. Definitely the next thing I should do is check the response at the mix position.
I also intend to do the "balloon test" to check to see what might be going on with the room itself.

Use Har-Bal to tune your playback equalization
I'm taking part in some mastering over on another website where different ME's take a single track and work on it independently. Then they all post their results and the results are critiqued by your peers. I have done this twice and both of my tracks have have been lacking in bass compared to other...

smoothing out the midrange with har-bal and samplitude
Working on some live recordings recently. Piano and vocal. The very heavy in the mid-range and some distortion on my playback system when pushing the levels. What I did to cure the recording was to identify mid-range resonances with har-bal. Then apply eq cuts. Samplitude was used as well to bounce ...

I like the idea irrespective of which route (ie. HB on final mix or HB on individual tracks prior to mix down). In a sense, perhaps it would be a good idea to do both as in the later case a lot might also depend on mixing decisions made by whoever is mixing it. The only way that wouldn't be the cas...

If your friend is using the HD24, then have him start to record his mixes to two spare tracks on that recorder. You can setup that recorder as an FTP server and transfer the 24-bit files directly to another computer. If you can get those files, then that would be ideal to work with for further proce...

On windows here are some programs that might come in handy for you. Audacity is a free program that can capture your audio files to float format. Har-bal can open and write float files. http://audacity.sourceforge.net Also, Samplitude now is available in a lite version for about $60. http://www.samp...

Yes. This is one of the creative uses of Har-Bal.
Paavo and Earle may have more to say on this, but I dug up one thread on it ---I'm sure there are others.

Hey Lucky, Good job on that. Overall, the track is very easy to listen to. Nicely balanced. The low end is nice a full but yet not masking any other frequencies as far as I can tell. I did compare it to a few other of your tracks, and in those I hear more of a variety of eq. So, can I assume that Ha...
