Monitor connection

Hi guys, this may sound stupid, but i downloaded a set of test tones from a link off this site and i was wondering, if i play a tone that say 500hz left and it says that the sound has to be coming out of the left speaker otherwise the speakers are not connected properly. Does that mean, left when facing towards the speakers. Thanks to all

That sounds correct to me. Think of it in terms of your pan control on your DAW channels. If you pan to the left you'd expect to here the sound on the left. If it is on the right then it is obviously swapped over.
