Post by Ged the undead »

Just wondering, when using a reference to balance the bass mids and treble ranges of my track, am i best to use the peak spectrum or average???
cheers,

That would depend upon the track. If it is dominated by quiet passages but has a small part with strong bass then the peak trace may be more informative. On the other hand, if the intensity of the parts played by each instrument doesn't change much throughout the track then the average is probably better. Ultimately though, you should be confirming it with your ears and hopefully your monitoring environment is up to the task. If not then
headphones may be your best bet.
