bit rate hassle

Post by dbright »

I am using HB and find it useful but I have a bit of a bit probl;em. I always get an error message from wavelab 4.0 when i import a wav file that I have eqd with HB. Unless I mixdown from 32 bit to 24 bit first. then it works ok but i would prefer to stay at 32bit until I burn the master cd. Why do I have to reduce my bit rate before wavelab will work with the file. It accepts 32bit wav files from Nuendo 2.0 why not HB?
Also...when will the update be ready?

thanks great tool

bit depth hastle

The problem is a known one that comes about because of an ambiguity of file formats that we will resolve at some stage but not right now.

Essentially what happens is when your source file is a 24 bit type 1 floating point format wav file, LibSndFile reports the file as being a 32 bit wav file so the output file format which HarBal chooses as default is 32 bit PCM, which Nuendo does not understand (note that Har-Bal can read the output it creates).

The work-around is to use 24 bit PCM source files or 24 bit type 3 floating point format wav files.

Paavo.
