Transients

I've been able to achieve some good results with Har-Bal!
The hardest part is knowing when you're destroying nice transients while trimming peaks...
Any thoughts on this?

Bad Peaks

Post by Har/Bal »

On the subject of correct usage and what constitues a bad peak or a good peak the simplest rule of thumb I can give you is that the size of the "fast moving peaks" should be around the same size. Generally speaking the fast moving peaks should be left alone and not touched (take fast moving as peaks with widths of less than 1/2 an octave. The only exception is if it stands out above everything else adjacent to it but keep in mind that cymbals / horns etc are an exception to this for high frequencies. What you should really be concentrating on is eliminating the broad holes or peaks, changing the overall shape of the spectrum but preserving the bumps.
