Saving Files

Post by eardrum »

:D Hi all
hope someone can Help?
After I fiddle with the peaks and hole in an already mastered stereo file and aplying an EQ filllter and hit record ( I've been saving as PCM wave file)
I cannot open this file in wavelab.
Message: the audio compression driver Reports that the conversion from this source file format to the selected output is not supported.!
How should I be saving this file for proper playback in my audio editor?
TIA
Michael

Are you using version 1.5 or 1.51? For 24 bit float point formats version 1.5 has a problem whereby it changes the written format to 32 bit pcm integer format which a lot of DAW's don't seem to support. You can avoid this by using 24 bit integer format files or getting ver sion 1.51. If the problem is something else then you may have to give us a little more detail to go on.

Regards,

Paavo.

Hello and thanks Paavo
I just purchase har-bal last saturday, the 7th of november, the zip file sez 1.5r1, but in the about dialog in Har-bal it states 1.5.
the file I'm working on was recorded and mixed in 44.1kHz 32 bit float Cubase SX 2.2.
I then mastered it in wavelab 5.0, and renderd the file which I burnt to cd and it play fine on all stereo systems.
When I checked the properties of the original file against the Har-bal file they both read ( BIT RATE 2822Kbsps-Audio sanple size 32 Bits- channels 2 stereo
Audio sample rate 44khz- Plus Har-bal file includes- Audio format PCM.
I would have thought this fille would be 16bits 44khz after rendering? Humm
I have checked Wavelavb to see if pcm file format was supported, Only found this.Raw
(.raw, .bin, .pcm, .$$$)
In this format, no information about bit resolution or sample rate is included. If you open a file in this format, WaveLab will ask you to specify the bit resolution and sample rate. If you don't do this correctly, the file will not play back as intended.
I was not ask to specify any sample rate or bits resolution only as previously poster (Message: the audio compression driver Reports that the conversion from this source file format to the selected output is not supported.!)
My audio card is an Aarvark Ark 24 running at 24 bits. asio 2 drivers and har-bal is set to use them.
Everything play fine in the Har-bal app,Just won't open in anything Else.
What am I doing WRONG!
TIA
If you require anymore info Please let me know.
Michael
