weighting curve

Post by Ged Leitch »

Just wanted to know what type of weighting curve HarBal uses to analyze the audio or display in the spectrum? and why this type of curve is the most useful?

The analysed and displayed spectrum in Har-Bal is unweighted, though it is smoothed to a 1/6th octave resolution to make it more representative of what we hear.

Har-Bal 1.51 and earlier did use A-weighting to calculate the amount of boost or cut required to give a matched loudness between EQ-in and EQ-out but now it uses the Zwicker loudness model instead. In both cases, this has no affect on what is displayed on screen for the track spectrum.

Regards,

Paavo.
