better way to render audio

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it is better to do audio mixdown on the same computer or record project in real time on another computer, DAT, etc. I had experience with poor quality of audio mixdown, when I done it on the same computer. Working with EMU 1820M hardware and NUENDO 3.2 software ( 32 bit float, 48 khz project to 192 khz at same bit resolution ).
