As a new commer to the h-bal world,I must say that the unit is a GREAT tool,as long as you have a GOOD monitor system,and a good mix to work with.
With that said Im currenely using cds of songs Ive already mastered (its great knowing that Im not of by that much),send them into my pc,change to wav,then to h-bal,it works great,but my question is this,can i send an input into the free-rip for conversion via an alesis usb interface?
Im using the Alesis i0/2 24 bit usb audio/midi interface as my output from my pc to my studio monitoring system with good results,but I was wondering if I could use the interface as an input for the har-bal?

Hi Eddie,

I'd say the answer is no. Har-bal is fundamentally a wave file processor. It doesn't read input from real time streams. If you want to do something like that with the current version you need to record it first.

I have Cu-base software that Im not too familiar with,everything I do is outside of the pc world,with the exception of sending audio into the pc so that the har-bal can see it.
Im trying to avoid so many links in the chain (burning to cd so the har-bal can see it) then to wav,then to har-bal etc...
I guess Ill record the audio into the pc via cu-base,but Im not so sure that It can convert to wav?

Are you suggesting that you record everything using analog gear or digital gear that is stand-alone? If it is digital then I'd assume it will have some means of exporting to CDR/W or something similar. Failing that, you shoulbe be able to record via S/PDIF via a sound card that supports it.

Yes,I use stand alone digital gear to record on,then output (analog) for processing,then back to digital for mastering.
Like I said,Im not familiar with pc software such that of the CuBase,but Im learning,apparantly,I can record into CuBase, as a Wav then hopefully export to Hal-Bar

On windows here are some programs that might come in handy for you.

Audacity is a free program that can capture your audio files to float format. Har-bal can open and write float files.

Also, Samplitude now is available in a lite version for about $60.

DbPowerAmp is a good utility for converting files from different formats. You can convert from AIFF to WAV for example. There are a number of plugins for this that allow for conversion between different formats.

Ill give it a try. I recently bought a usb interface that came with cubase,I downloaded the cubase but for the life of me,I cant seem to make the cubase see the interface as an input--
According to the cubase.I can make it record in wav form,if only i could make it see the inputs!

If you have any software support for cubase, I would get in touch with them and see what the problem might be.

If they are bundling that software with the device, perhaps the manufacturer can help too.
