Hello, guys.
I have recently been reading about parallel compression. The article described how to use it in ProTools. But I use Cubase SX 3. Does anyone know how to apply parallel compression in Cubase SX 3? How to route everything?
Thank you!
Sincerely,

Parallel compression
If you have a track or bus called "SOURCE" that has an output to a bus called "MASTER", set a send bus "SEND" from SOURCE and compress it to the smithereens. Set the output from the SEND to MASTER and mix it into SOURCE to your taste.
I scoop some lows out of the SEND. Otherwise it usually gets very bassy. You can also set an analog- or tapesaturation-plugin into the SEND to get some old skool flavour.
It's important to check the mix both in a quiet part and in a loud part - as the idea is to beef up the quiet parts without squashing the transients in the loud parts.
Parallel compression suits especially well the mastering part of 'lighter' songs like classical/jazz/ballads, but try it in the mixing stage, too - makes wonders for instance to the snare sound.
Best,
Jyri

Thank you, Jyri!
Do you use Cubase or another sequencer?
You explained it clearly, but I'm not skilled in routing:( Could you please make a print screen of this routing with clear view of how to do it? I would really appreciate. It would be the best for me and others, I think.
Thank you.

Hi.
I will try to follow your description. Ok let's say I have:
1. Audio track (Source) ; 2. "Send" BUS ; 3. "Master" BUS
You wrote: "Set a send bus "SEND" from SOURCE and compress it to the smithereens". This moment is not clear. Do I send a "Send" BUS to Audio track? What is on "Send" BUS then? And why to set an output from "Send" BUS to "Master" BUS?
Sorry:)

Hi
I copy the sourcefile into two tracks in CUBASE SX3.
Track one is the untreatet track.
Track two is the compressed one.
I fade the compressed channel in until it sounds good to me.
If the plugin causes latency problems, I insert it on both channels. The one on the neutral track runs in bypass mode.
